Specialized Tests for Early Detection

At Great Hills Eye Care, we use specialized diagnostic tools to help protect your vision. These tests let our doctors see more, identify problems early, and provide precise, personalized care for every patient.

Below are the main tests we perform, along with when our doctors recommend them.

Visual Field Testing with the FDT Visual Field Analyzer

Some patients are at higher risk for functional vision loss that may not be noticed in everyday life. The FDT Visual Field Analyzer helps our doctors measure how well your peripheral vision is functioning and identify early signs of glaucoma or optic nerve disease.

Our doctors recommend this test if you:

  • Have a family history of eye disease
  • Have a high prescription
  • Are over 40 years old

Dry Eye Testing with the Topcon CA-800

Dry eye affects many of our patients and can cause discomfort, redness, and blurred vision. The Topcon CA-800 helps us evaluate the quality and stability of your tear film, along with the health of your eyelid oil glands. This allows our doctors to determine the type and cause of your dry eye, then create a treatment plan tailored to you.

Our doctors recommend this test if you:

  • Use computers or smartphones for more than 4 hours daily
  • Experience dry, red, irritated, or scratchy eyes
  • Have intermittent blurred vision

Retinal and Optic Nerve Imaging with the Topcon Maestro 2 OCT

The Topcon Maestro 2 OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve. This allows our doctors to see through the layers of the eye to detect subtle changes that may indicate early glaucoma, macular disease, or swelling.

Our doctors recommend this test if you:

  • Have a family history of glaucoma or high eye pressure
  • Show swelling in the retina or optic nerve
  • Experience new or unexplained vision loss

Comprehensive Care Starts with Precision

Specialized testing helps us provide the most accurate diagnosis and protect your vision for years to come.

Ask your doctor if one of these tests is recommended for you during your next visit.
